近年來黑杞子受到不少人熱捧。雖然紅、黑杞子在價錢上相距甚遠,但其實兩者功效相若。杞子同樣具滋陰明目功效;黑杞子藴含較多花青素,具有抗氧能力。由於「腎藏精」,而「精化為血」,兩種顏色的杞子同時具有養肝腎的功效,故此分別實在不大。謹記外感期間、脾虛易肚瀉者不宜食用。

紅杞子
性平,具滋補肝腎、益精明目的功效,被喻為很好的平補之藥,可改善血虛、陰虛引起的目赤眼乾、頭髮早白及潮熱盜汗等症狀。

黑杞子
性平,可補血安神、益精明目。可改善膚色黯啞、血虛或陰虛引起的目赤眼乾、頭髮早白及潮熱盜汗等症狀。
