Mint can clear heat and cool you down
Mint is especially popular during summer because of its cooling effect. From Chinese medicine perspective, mint can dissipate heat and clear our vision as well as our mind. Making yourself a cup of mint tea during summer can clear heat and prevent heat stroke. Hence, drinking a cup of mint tea, when the early symptoms of flu caused by the wind-heat pathogens begin to appear, is the simplest remedy to improve the condition. Growing mint during summer is also helpful in prevent mosquito and bug issues as its leaves and stems contain essential mint oil, which would deter the pests.
Mint is cool in nature, and can dispel wind-heat, alleviate flu related headaches, swollen and sore throat, mouth ulcers, hot cough with yellow phlegm, and toothache. Mint can also relieve pain caused by rubella infection and indigestion, as well as freshen one’s breath. Nonetheless, individuals with “yin” deficiency should not consume mint excessively.
Mint and chrysanthemum tea
Effects: Clears summer heat, soothes excessive thirst and bad breath. It is suitable for hot-wind related flu symptoms and Rheumatism pain relief.
Ingredients: 3g Mint, 3g chrysanthemum, honey to taste
Preparation: Rinse all ingredients thoroughly and place into thermos, rinse with hot water once. Then add in hot water again and steep for 5 minutes. Add honey to taste. For best results, drink consecutively for 2-3 days. Two weeks for a treatment.
