香港人喜歡打邊爐,一個人/一班人/生日/慶功/高興/失戀都適合打邊爐,打邊爐從湯底到食材選擇五花百門,更有不少餐廳推介藥膳湯底,標榜具滋補、驅寒、養血等養生功效。一班人圍著火爐食火鍋,本身已令環境升溫,如果藥膳湯底加入枸杞、紅棗、人參、當歸等屬性偏溫的食材,只會令進食者火上加油,令本身體質偏熱者出現上火症狀。

想吃火鍋吃得健康一點,最健康就是選擇清湯或以屬性平和或偏涼食材熬製的湯底,例如加入海帶、冬瓜、番茄、白蘿蔔、粟米等。

Choose your hot pot soup based on your body type

People in Hong Kong love to hot pot whether you are alone, with a group, celebrating, happy or sad, hot pot seems to be the choice of activity. There are lots of ingredients to choose from and a lot of restaurants also promote herbal soup base claiming to nourish the body, dispel cold nourish blood etc. Having hot pot is already in a warmer environment and soup base with warm natured ingredients such as wolfberries, Chinese red dates, ginseng, or angelica root can create excess heat in the body.

If you want to have a healthy hot pot, it is best to choose clear broth or soups with mild nature or slightly cool natured ingredients such as kelp, winter melon, tomato, radish, corn, etc.

Soup base and its compatibility with body types:
Clear broth- all body types
Winter melon base- suitable for those prone to excess fire and those with damp heat. Not suitable for those with asthenic cold spleen and stomach, yang deficiency.

Satay or spicy- Suitable for those with yang deficiency, asthenic weak qi and blood. Not suitable for those prone to excess fire, damp heat, phlegm and dampness, and yin deficiency.

Milk base- suitable for those with yang deficiency, asthenic week qi and blood. Not suitable for damp heat and phlegm and dampness body types.

Chicken base- suitable for those with asthenic weak qi and blood, yang deficiency, asthenic cold body types. Not suitable for those prone to excess fire, damp heat and yang deficiency.

Herbal soup base- suitable for those with asthenic weak qi and blood, asthenic cold spleen and stomach. Not suitable for those prone to excess fire, damp heat, yang deficiency.
