Nutritious Vegetarian Soup to Strengthen the Spleen and Nourish Baby
What kind of soup can expecting mothers have? As everyone, including pregnant ladies, have different body types, we would suggest mild-natured soups with tomatoes, potatoes, cashews, hairy gourd, black-eyed pea, and tofu, etc. Try also add in herbs that can strengthen the spleen and nourish yin such as Chinese yam, lotus seeds, snow fungus, lily bulbs, wolfberries, black beans, walnuts. Do not add in other herbs unless instructed by a professional. It is beneficial to have fish soup as they can be quite nutritious. For those sensitive to the fish smell, try adding in two slices of ginger to reduce that.
Lotus root soup with Chinese yam and carrot
Ingredients: 1 lotus root, 1 fresh Chinese yam, 1 carrot, 30g red beans, 40g red kidney beans, 2 candied dates, 1 dried citrus peel
1. Peel lotus root, fresh Chinese yam and carrot and cut into pieces.
2. Combine all ingredients with 2000ml of water and cook on high heat until boiling. Turn to low heat and simmer for 1.5 hour. Add salt to taste.
Effects: Strengthen the spleen, stimulate appetite, and relieve dryness. Suitable for expecting mothers during fall.
