Peach can moisten bowels and replenish qi and blood
Summer is the right time to savour peach. In recent years, many people preferred to purchase peach in boxes that are directly delivered from the orchard, as they are more reasonably priced. The soft and juicy sweet scented peach is irresistible to many, but it is important to take note that the fruit is hot in nature, and can cause an increase in body heat.
Individuals with heat related symptoms such as sore throat, canker sores, and acne should limit the intake of peach. The same goes for patients with diabetes and high blood sugar (hyperglycemia). On the other hand, the fruit can replenish qi and blood, nourish the yin and help saliva secretion, as well as stimulate bowel movements. Hence, it is good for constipated individuals who experience qi and blood deficiency, aversion to cold, edema as well as yang deficiency.
Peach has a high water content, so slicing it into smaller pieces might be a waste of the juice that oozes out from the flesh. Why not peel off the skin and enjoy the fruit as it is? You may consider preparing a bowl of hot and iced water, dip the peach into the hot water for 20 seconds, and transfer it to the iced water for another 20 seconds. Then, run a knife along the pit split, and you should be able to remove the outer coat effortlessly.
Peach – also called the “Pan” peach and sweet peach; hot in nature, can replenish qi and blood, nourish yin and promote saliva secretion, as well as stimulate bowel movements. It is suitable for individuals with low blood sugar level, heart-blood deficiency, the manifestation of cough and asthma caused by a weak lung. Individuals with heat related symptoms should not consume peach excessively, since it is hot in nature. The same goes for patients with diabetes and high blood sugar (hyperglycemia).
