吃雪糕刨冰易頭痛?
Elsa:「為甚麼我每次吃雪糕、刨冰就會頭痛呢?」
CheckCheckCin:吃雪糕、刨冰後會頭痛的情況,西醫稱為「雪糕頭痛」(Ice-cream headache),因為吃雪糕、刨冰這些冰凍食物時速度太急,口部及頭部受冰凍刺激而引致血管收縮,身體想加速傳送血液而引致頭痛。而從中醫角度來看,雪糕、刨冰屬生冷之物,損害身體陽氣影響氣血循環,令身體呈氣滯及血瘀體質,容易出現頭痛、痛經甚至周身疼痛。而生冷食物會使負責水液推動的脾臟運作不暢順,形成痰濕,痰濕跑到頭部便產生繃緊脹痛感,甚至伴隨頭暈、胸悶等症狀。
不想頭痛發作,雪糕、刨冰等生冷之物還是少吃為宜,尤其生理期、身體虛弱的時候,否則頭痛和各種疼痛都容易發作。如果吃生冷食物後感到頭痛不適,可以飲用肉桂薑茶緩解,肉桂有散寒止痛作用,薑則能發汗驅寒。
肉桂薑茶
功效:溫經散寒止痛。
材料:肉桂粉1茶匙、薑4片、紅糖2茶匙
做法:洗淨薑,肉桂粉和薑加入800毫升水以武火煮滾後轉文火煮30分鐘,加適量紅糖調味即成。
注意:身體有偏熱症狀者、孕婦不宜服用。
Why do you feel brain freeze from eating ice cream?
“Why do I get a headache after eating ice cream or shaved ice?”
CheckCheckCin: It is common to get a brain freeze when you eat frozen foods such as ice cream and shaved ice too quickly. The mouth and head are affected by the cold which causes blood vessel constriction, and the body then speed up the transfer of blood and cause headaches. From Chinese medicine perspective, ice cream and shaved ice are cold/raw foods, which damage the body’s yang qi and affect the qi and blood circulation, and cause qi stagnation and blood stasis body condition. People with this body type are prone to headaches, menstrual pain and even body aches. The cold/raw food affects the spleen functions to circulate fluid smoothly, then phlegm and dampness will be formed. When the phlegm and dampness affect the head, it will cause tension and swelling, or even dizziness and chest tightness.
To prevent headaches, it is advisable to eat less cold/raw foods such as ice cream and shaved ice, especially during menstruation and when the body is weak, otherwise headaches and various pains may happen. If you feel headache and discomfort after eating cold/raw food, you can drink ginger tea with cinnamon to relieve the discomfort. Cinnamon can dispel cold and relieve pain. Ginger can promote perspiration and dispel cold.
Ginger tea with cinnamon
Effects: warms the channel to dispel cold, and relieves pain
Ingredients: 1 tbsp. of cinnamon powder, 4 slices of ginger, 2 tbsp. of brown sugar
Preparation: rinse ginger. Combine cinnamon powder and ginger with 800ml of water and cook on high heat until boiling. Turn to low heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Add in brown sugar to taste.
Note: not suitable for those with heat-related symptoms and pregnant women
