The heat is making me lose my appetite!

Lately the ‘very hot’ warning from the Hong Kong Observatory is almost a daily occurrence. When heading out, you almost need a bit of courage to brace the heat and often times you also lose your appetite. We’re heading into Autumn but since it’s still so hot, people tend to consume a lot of cold and raw foods without knowing, and that could negatively impact the functions of the spleen and stomach. This leads to decrease in appetite. On top of losing your appetite, you may feel nauseous when you smell oily and greasy foods. Additional symptoms include abdominal bloating, gassiness, tired limbs, even diarrhea and loose stools.

During seasons like this, a lot of people have young coconut, winter melon, watermelon, etc to clear heat and dispel dampness. On top of that, be sure to take good care of your spleen and stomach so that they can properly remove excess fluids from your body. Strengthening your spleen and stomach can be very easy, start with a cup of rice water each day.
