Can highly seasoned foods influence body odor?

Do you have a preference for heavily seasoned or mild foods? Traditional Chinese Medicine classifies fried, greasy, and sweet foods as rich and heavily flavored. Consuming such foods can impose additional stress on the spleen and stomach, obstruct the body’s ability to eliminate dampness, and potentially lead to a constitution leaning towards phlegm-dampness or even damp-heat.

For those with a penchant for spicy foods, the situation can be more pronounced. Traditional Chinese Medicine categorizes spicy foods as “”xin””, and many “”xin”” foods tend to have warm properties. Examples include chili peppers, ginger, scallions, onions, garlic, black pepper, and perilla leaves.

These foods can exacerbate internal heat-related symptoms, hinder liver function, disrupt the smooth flow of meridians, worsen issues related to qi stagnation and blood stasis, and contribute to a sthenia constitution. This may manifest as irritability, increased sebum production leading to acne, body odor, and the presence of foul-smelling, sticky stools.
