Mr Impatient: I’ve heard soy milk strengthens the spleen and nourishes the stomach, so why is it not suitable for people with asthenic and weak stomach and spleen and prone to abdominal bloating?
CheckCheckCin: Even the most nutritious food can have the opposite effect when over consumed. Soy bean is indeed beneficial to the stomach and spleen and it is nourishing. It strengthens the spleen and stomach by clearing heat through moistening the bowels and relieving constipation. In other words, for those with asthenic spleen and stomach, they would be prone to abdominal bloating and diarrhea and soy beans would not be suitable. Soya beans are cold in nature and can lead to qi stagnation and abdominal bloating, as well as poor digestion and loose stool.
