Does autumn dryness cause nosebleeds?
The weather in autumn often makes us feel dry in our mouth and on our tongue, prompting us to cough from time to time. At times, we might even smell blood from our nasal cavity, and our mucus might even contain streaks of blood! These are symptoms that result from autumn dryness.
Some people have a thinner mucous membrane, and the dry weather would cause the membrane to turn dry. Individuals with the habit of rubbing and picking their noses, people who enjoy eating deep-fried, oily, and heavily-seasoned food, or those who are deprived of sleep would experience nose bleeding more easily.
🩸Managing nose bleeds⛑️
Tilt your head forward slightly, and use your fingers to hold the two sides of your nose. Breath with your mouth. Hold for 1-2 minutes and release. If the bleeding continues, repeat the above steps until the bleeding stops. If the bleeding continues for more than 10 minutes, or frequently re-occurs (for example, once a week), you should seek professional medical help.
To reduce the frequency of nosebleeds, we should nourish the yin, moisten the body, hydrate our body from time to time by consuming an appropriate amount of honey water. We can also put a glass of water by the bed and use steam to moisten the nose.
Cut down on deep-fried and oily food, and drink soup or herbal tea that can cool the blood and hydrate the body. For instance, couch grass root can cool the blood, stop bleeding, clear heat, and induce urination. Lotus root can also clear heat, quench thirst, stop bleeding, clear phlegm, nourish the stomach, and replenish the yin.
