Having sleep problems during the pandemic?
Lotus seed and lily soup might help
Dealing with the pandemic can be very tiring and can take a toll on our emotional wellbeing and general health. Not being able to sleep well, constantly experiencing nightmares, and waking up in the middle of the night can cause us to feel more exhausted than ever.
From the perspective of Chinese Medicine, all these situations are symptoms of insomnia. Fatigue and excessive worrying would hurt the spleen and the heart, hence causing individuals to experience insomnia. It is best to start treating this sleep disorder when the condition is mild. Consume lotus seeds, lily bulb, dried longan, spine date seed and dwarf lilyturf, as these ingredients can calm the mind and improve your sleep quality.
Tip on the ingredients:
Pelted wheat – cool in nature, clears the heart and relieves irritability, can calm the heart and mind. It is suitable for individuals with heart palpitations, difficulty falling asleep and frequent dreaming.
Corn and lotus seed soup with lily bulb and pelted wheat
Effects: nourishes the heart and calms the mind, relieves symptoms such as insomnia due to irritability, poor sleep quality and excessive sweating.
Ingredients: 2 ears of corn, 1 carrot, 30g lotus seed, 30g lily bulbs, 20g pelted wheat, 10g dried longan, 4 Chinese dates
1. Rinse all ingredients thoroughly. Soak pelted wheat in water for 2 hours. Cut peeled corn into pieces. Cut peeled carrot into pieces.
2. Combine all ingredients with 2500ml of water in a pot and cook on high heat until boiling. Turn to low heat and simmer for 1.5 hour. Add salt to taste.
