傳統坐月古法分享
蘊含傳統智慧的「坐月」,代表婦女在產後首100天靜養調補,與世隔絕。以往生活環境特殊,欠缺乾淨水源或氣候過冷,不利產婦坐月,才會諸多注意事項。不知道你又有沒有聽過或試過以下的傳統坐月方法呢?

1/產後立即溫補
傳統坐月是無論剖腹還是順產,老一輩提倡產後馬上溫補,每天吃薑飯、麻油雞、雞酒等以調理虛弱的體質。而水和蔬菜被視為生冷之物,會透過母乳令嬰兒腹瀉。其實為恢復產後虛弱的脾胃功能,平和調補身體、適量攝取白開水和米水,以及進食屬性平和的蔬果對產婦有利無害,還可避免便秘呢!

2/只可臥床,不可外出
傳統智慧認為「風乃百病之長」,若氣血虛弱的產婦著涼,會出現「月內風」症狀如頭暈、風寒、手腳冰冷,因此坐月期間要躺在床上,不可下床活動,親友也不可探望產婦。然而產婦注意保暖,不要被風直吹便可。

3/坐月食療不下鹽
當老一輩看到嬰兒的嘴唇發白、長水泡、莫名起皮,就說因為媽媽吃了鹽,導致嬰兒長出「鹽泡」。其實那是「吮吸泡」,是因為嬰兒吮吸喝奶時造成的,沒有痛楚而且會自然消失。坐月食療不必完全戒鹽,下一點調味促進食慾。

4/30天不洗頭、洗澡
老一輩認為產婦只要碰了生水,寒氣進入身體,容易造成身體畏寒、腰背痠痛等病症,因此產婦只可用薑汁擦身,連洗手都只能用開水。現代科技進步,產婦只要注意室溫和水溫洗澡、洗髮就沒問題,個人衛生也好重要呢!

5/不可刷牙、梳頭
有傳說提到「生個孩子掉顆牙」,而梳頭會招風,容易脫髮更會落下老年頭痛。其實中醫並沒有這個說法,尤其產婦一日多餐,必須刷牙保健牙齒,而梳頭可以促進頭皮血液循環。為方便產後打理,很多媽媽才會產前剪短頭髮。

Confinement month is a traditional concept that says ladies who just gave birth should have proper rest and recovery in the first 100 days postpartum. In the past, the living environment was different, lacking clean water or the weather was too cold, which was unfavorable for the mother during confinement month. Have you ever heard or tried the following traditional confinement month methods?

1/ Have replenishing dishes immediately after childbirth
Whether it is caesarean or vaginal delivery, the older generation advocates to have replenishing dishes immediately after childbirth, eating ginger rice, sesame oil chicken and chicken wine every day to regulate the weak body condition. Water and vegetables are considered to be cold in nature and will cause diarrhea in the baby through breast milk. In fact, in order to restore the postpartum asthenic spleen and stomach function, condition the body with mild nourishment and moderate intake of boiled water and rice water, as well as eating fruits and vegetables which are mild in nature are beneficial to the mother, and can avoid constipation!

2/ Can only lie in bed and not go out
Traditional wisdom believes that ‘wind is the chief pathogen of all diseases’. If the mother with asthenic qi and blood catches cold, there will be “confinement month wind” symptoms such as dizziness, wind-cold flu, cold limbs. So women are told to stay in bed during the confinement month. Friends and relatives can not visit the mother. In reality, it is sufficient if the mother keep warm and not be blown by wind.

3/ Confinement month diet without salt
When the older generation saw that the baby’s lips were white, have blisters, and peel without reason, it was said that because the mother had eaten salt, the baby grew a “salt bubble.” In fact, it is a “sucking bubble”, because the baby sucks and drinks breast milk, there is no pain and it will naturally disappear. The confinement month treatment does not have to completely salt free, as you can add a bit to taste and promote appetite.

4/ Not washing hair and taking a shower for 30 days
The older generation thinks that when the mother touches faucet water, then the cold air enters the body, which can cause symptoms such as aversion to cold and sore back. Therefore, the mother can only use ginger juice to wipe the body, and wash hands by using water that has been boiled. With modern science and technology, it is no problem to have shower and wash hair as long as you pay attention to room temperature and water temperature. Personal hygiene is also important!

5/ Do not brush your teeth and comb your hair
There is a saying “giving birth to a child means losing a tooth”, and combing l hair will attract the wind to cause hair loss and headache when you are older. In fact, Chinese medicine does not have this statement. In particular, women who have more meals a day must brush their teeth to care for their teeth, and combing their hair can promote blood circulation of the scalp. In order to facilitate postpartum care, many mothers will cut short hair before delivery.
