Three life hacks to improve sleep quality
You will appreciate a good night sleep after experiencing occasional sleep deprivation. Waking up with a clear mind is nothing extraordinary, yet it can be a blessings in life. Work-related exhaustion, mental stress and emotional instability, which will lead to the accumulation of excessive heat in the liver, are factors that contributed to a declining sleep quality, insomnia and the inability to fall asleep again once awakened. If such condition occurs occasionally, consider these three life hacks below; but if the problem still persists, you should consult a registered Chinese medicine practitioner.

Life hack 1: Relax before sleep
Unlike electronic devices, we cannot turn off our body with just a switch. Spend 30 minutes to an hour to calm down, listen to some soothing music, or practise breathing exercises. For instance, try abdominal breathing, or just simply slow down your breathing to ensure your mind and your body are ready to welcome a good night’s rest.

Life hack 2: Foot bath to promote sleep quality
Foot baths can improve the circulation of the qi and blood, as well as calm us down and help us sleep better. The easiest way is to dip our feet into warm water at 40 degree Celsius. Do ensure the water level is kept above the ankles, and the session should last between 20 and 30 minutes. You may add in warm water in between to maintain the temperature. You should end the session once you begin to sweat mildly.

Life hack 3: Three acupoints for you to de-stress
Messaging acupoints on the body can help relieve emotional tension. Before you go to bed, message these three areas to help de-stress and improve sleep quality. Use your thumb to message each acupoint gently for about 2 – 3 minutes.

Yintang Point
Location: Midway between the medial ends of the eyebrows

Shen Men Point
Location: at the wrist crease, from the pinky finger to the bottom of the palm where it depresses

Taichong Point
Location: on side of top of foot, on your foot about two finger widths above the place where the skin of your big toe and the next toe join.
