Consume chives to nourish yang
We need yang energy to keep us warm and dispel cold during winter, and the lack of yang energy would lower our immunity. What can we eat to replenish the yang energy?
One of them is chives, which can warm the kidneys and replenish the yang energy. Since it is warm in nature, it is suitable for individuals with a cold and yang-deficient body. It is, however, not suitable for yin-deficient individuals and those with a heaty body and people who exhibit symptoms like canker sore, acne, and sore throat.
Chinese chives, which are dark green in color, have similar medicinal properties as chive flowers and yellow chives. Chive flowers are blooms of the mature Chinese chives, whereas yellow chives are Chinese chives that are not exposed to full sun. Since they cannot carry out photosynthesis, they would remain yellow and would have a smoother and softer texture as compared to the green form.
Chives – hot in nature, can warm the stomach, warm the kidneys and nourish yang, relieve bruising and promote blood circulation. Suitable for those with cold body types, yang deficiency, aversion to cold, weak and sore lower back and knees, men with frequent urination, insufficient yang qi that leads to abdominal pain. Due to its hot nature, those with asthenic yin should avoid.
