Friday Soup Series- Flathead Fish Soup with Cantaloupe, Lotus Seeds and Lily Bulbs
Most people confine themselves during the first month post labor, but does everyone truly know how to do it properly? In comparison to overly replenishing tonic foods, simple mild foods might be better to achieve the basics of nourishing the spleen, replenish qi and blood, and aid breast milk production. In addition, foods that can nourish yin and calm the mind are also great for ladies after labor as they can alleviate asthenic fire increase due to late nights taking care of new born. Fall is also upon us with dryness so Mommies in confinement can try this soup- a delicious and suitable soup for your body!
Mild Confinement Soup
Ingredients: half a cantaloupe, 20g lotus seeds, 20g lily bulbs, 1-2 flathead fish, 1 dried citrus peel, ginger and onion.
Preparation method: Combine ingredients with 2500ml of water in a pot, and place over high heat until the water boils. Switch to low heat and simmer for an additional 1.5 hours. Add salt to taste.
Effects: Nourish the spleen and calm the heart, nourish yin and calm the mind. Suitable for consumption during fall for mommies after labor to strengthen the body.
