Soup to relieve summer heat and strengthen the spleen and stomach
People in Hong kong eat out a lot and many prefer fried, oily and cold/raw foods. When your spleen and stomach cannot handle the load, fluids in your body cannot flow smoothly leading to phlegm and dampness body constitution. Take a look in the mirror, do you see a layer of thick coating? Internal dampness coupled with external humidity would feel as if you are wrapped in a big wet towel and could be quite tiring. Start improving the condition by dispelling dampness.
Old cucumber soup with hyacinth bean and coix seeds can strengthen the spleen and dispel dampness. Hyacinth bean is suitable for those with phlegm and dampness or qi deficiency. Old cucumber is cool in nature, can clear heat and detoxify, promote fluid production and relieve thirst, promote diuresis and relieve bloating.
Old cucumber soup with hyacinth bean and coix seeds
Ingredients: 1 old cucumber, 2 potatoes, 1 tael fresh corn silk (about 40g), 15g hyacinth bean, 30g coix seeds, 1 dried citrus peel, 3 candied dates
1. Rinse all ingredients thoroughly, remove seeds from cucumber and cut into pieces. Peel potatoes and cut into pieces. Place corn silk into soup bag.
2. Combine all ingredients with 2500ml if water and cook on high heat until boiling. Simmer on low heat for 1.5 hour. Add salt to taste.

Add in appropriate amounts of ingredients to strengthen the spleen and dispel dampness. These ingredients include corn silk, coix seeds, Chinese yam, rice beans.
