Managing relatives during Chinese New Year visits
Chinese New Year is also time to visit relatives. Some relatives that you have not seen in a while may start to ask very personal questions about your love life, plans to have children, career etc. They may not necessarily care but the questions still come up. When faced with these questions, you can gently change it up and mix it up with new years happy to keep everyone happy.
Relative: Are you in a relationship? When are you bringing him or her here to visit?
You: I have quite a few pursuers, I am carefully evaluating!
Relative: When are you getting married? When will you be giving out red pockets?
You (changing the topic): hope you have prosperous years ahead and happily give out red pockets!
Relative: You’ve been married a while now, when are you having kids?
You: How many do you think I should have? One might get lonely, two sounds good, three would be a full house. Are you going to help babysit?
Relative: what do you do for work? How much are you making?
You: you seem quite successful, probably not going to ever make more than you!
