Yin Deficiency vs. Yang Deficiency
【Yin Deficiency Constitution】
Does your skin still feel extremely dry even in humid weather? If you have a lean physique, and often experience dry eyes, dry mouth, frequent thirst, and have dark yellow urine, you may very well have a yin deficiency constitution.
A body with this kind of constitution lacks moisture and is often observed in individuals who stay up late frequently, experience emotional stress, or have a penchant for spicy foods. Excess yang energy can lead to internal heat, and in severe cases, it may manifest as symptoms such as fever, night sweats (sweating during sleep but waking up dry), and a sensation of intense heat in the palms, soles, and chest.
Method to replenish: Nourish yin and relieve dryness
Suitable: lily bulbs, sesame, honey, glehnia root, polygonatum, sea coconut, snow fungus, pear, American ginseng, dendrobium
Avoid: dried longan, lychee, Chinese red dates, ginseng, spring onion, raw ginger, garlic, lamb, cinnamon
American Ginseng tea with radix ophiopogonis
Effects: nourishes yin, clears heat and relieves dryness, alleviates symptoms such as late sleep, dry mouth, dry lips.
Ingredients: 1 tablespoon American ginseng, 1 tablespoon radix ophiopogonis, honey to taste
Preparation: Rinse ingredients and put into thermos, rinse once with hot water, and add hot water, steep for 5-10 mins. Lastly add in honey when the water becomes warm. This tea could be rebrewed until flavor weakens. For best results, drink 2-3 days a week for a treatment.

Do you often have cold hands and feet, and are you sensitive to cold and drafts? There is a strong possibility that you have a yang deficiency constitution. Individuals with this constitution typically have inadequate yang energy in their body, resulting in cold extremities, a pale complexion, drowsiness, spontaneous sweating (sweating regardless of environmental conditions), swelling, and increased urination.
This constitution is commonly found in people with irregular eating habits, a frequent consumption of raw and cold foods, a history of overexertion, or a tendency to be overly contemplative.
Method to replenish: replenish yang and dispel cold
Suitable: ginseng, lingzhi, cordyceps, cordyceps flower, maitake mushroom, lamb, raw ginger, cherry, peach
Avoid: ice cream, watermelon, cucumber, crab, persimmon, water chestnut
Fried Rice Tea with Ginger and Brown Sugar
Effects: Relieves exterior symptoms and promotes perspiration. Warms the stomach and dispels cold. Relieves headache and aversion to cold caused by cold wind flu.
Ingredients: 4 pieces of raw ginger, 2 teaspoons brown sugar, 1 sachet of Fried rice water
Preparation: Rinse all ingredients thoroughly. Peel and cut raw gingers into slices. Pound them with the back of a knife. Put them with fried rice water powder into thermos. Steep with hot water for 10 minutes and add brown sugar to taste. You can re-brew until its flavor weakens. For best results, drink 2-3 days a week for a treatment.
Note: Not suitable for those with heat-related symptoms such as bitter mouth, dry mouth, canker sore, pimples.
