Pear is the fruit for the fall
When people feel throat or respiratory discomfort, the fruit that comes to mind is pear. Pears are sweet and thirst-quenching, with the added healing effects of moistening the throat and lungs. During this period of seasonal change, eating pears is the best to help alleviate dryness symptoms such as dry throat and dry mouth. Pears are cool in nature so you can also stew it before eating. This is why you often see desserts made with cooked pears and paired with foods that nourish yin as well.
Pears- cold in nature, can promote fluid production and relieve dryness, clear heat, reduce phlegm and relieve hangover. Pears are especially suitable for those who speak or sing a lot as well as those with heat-related symptoms such as dry mouth, sore throat, and coarseness in voice. Note that pears are not suitable for those with asthenic cold spleen and stomach, meaning those prone to abdominal pain after eating cold/raw foods, diarrhea and cold cough (cough with itchiness in throat and white phlegm).
*Stewed or steamed pear can reduce its coldness to relieve children phlegm-heat related symptoms such as dry mouth and yellowish phlegm.
