Motion sickness acupoints

Motion sickness can be a problem for some people. They will experience symptoms such as dizziness, nausea, and vomiting during travel or even going on rides at theme parks. In addition to carrying a packet of dried tangerine peel, preserved plum, or sour candy to relieve nausea, applying pressure on the ‘Nei Guan’ acupoint can also help alleviate symptoms.

The ‘Nei Guan’ point is where the body’s meridian and collaterals meet, and it can help relieve chest tension and nausea. Massaging this acupoint is also effective for pregnancy-related nausea and vomiting. Anti-motion sickness bands that stimulate the ‘Nei Guan’ point on the inside of the wrist are also available for purchase. Alternatively, you can make your own by tying a hairband around your wrist and placing it over the acupoint after understanding the theory.

When experiencing motion sickness, it is best to look outside at the scenery in the distance or close your eyes and rest. If possible, open a window to breathe fresh air and avoid reading or using a mobile phone. It is important to keep the body still and avoid making sudden or frequent movements with your head.
