Is a cough without phlegm considered a dry cough?
“”Doctor, I’ve been experiencing frequent dry cough lately.”” Many times, we mistakenly believe that coughing without phlegm is considered a dry cough, but that is not the case! The nature of a cough depends on whether it sounds clear or comes with echoes. If there is an echo, it indicates a cough with phlegm accumulation. Coughing may worsen when lying flat on the bed and can also lead to throat discomfort.
It’s more common to have “”phlegm-heat cough.”” recently. Its symptoms include fever or the absence of fever, coughing or wheezing, yellow and sticky phlegm in large quantities, phlegm sticking to the throat, chest tightness, chest pain, restlessness, and thirst.
The accumulation of phlegm and dampness in the body, combined with the influence of heat pathogenic factor, results in stagnation that transforms into heat. To address this, it is advisable to clear heat, resolve phlegm, and stop coughing. One can consume appropriate amounts of monk fruit, figs, white radish, pears, chrysanthemum, and other ingredients that could clear heat from the body.
