Happy Winter Solstice! For the Chinese winter solstice tradition, moms are extra nervous about the meal ensuring there is chicken, seafood, stewed mushrooms and other meats, ending with a bowl of sweet dumplings. There really can be a lot of food! It would be a good idea to make a soup to help with digestion to balance all the over eating and really enjoy the meal!
Winter Solstice Soup to help with digestion
Ingredients: 1 green radish, 2 carrots, 1 potato, 20g malt, 20g rice sprouts, 1 dried citrus peel, 4 figs
Preparation: rinse all ingredients thoroughly. Peel green raddish, carrots and potato and cut into pieces. Combine all ingredients in a pot with 2000ml of water and cook on high heat until boiling. Turn to low heat and simmer for additional 1 hour. Add salt to taste.
Effects: promote qi circulation, and relieve stagnancy. Relieves indigestion and abdominal discomfort due to poor dietary habits.
Note: malt reduces milk supply, and is not recommended for breastfeeding mothers.
