Premenstrual breast pain due to liver stagnation
Ladies, did you realize your breasts would look perkier on certain days in the month? Before the period, many people would experience swelling of the breast and even distending pain. This is because a surge in the estrogen level in the body would stimulate cell growth in the breasts. The increase in mammary gland might also cause the distending pain in the bosoms.
Chinese Medicine theories believe liver stress would cause the stagnation of the qi, and the distending pain in breasts is caused by emotional distress and the stagnant qi in the liver. Individuals with symptoms like constant sighing, feeling moody, bloating, irregular bowel movement, and insomnia would tend to experience distending breast pain before period.
To relieve these symptoms, we have to soothe the liver by drinking rose tea or jasmine tea 3-7 days before period. Do learn to control the temper, relieve stress from time to time, and consume foods that can improve the circulation of the qi, like white radish, dried citrus peel, five-finger fig root, and kumquat.
